Bio
Jovan's entire life has revolved around music. As a toddler, you’d find her rocking in a chair, rhythmically entranced by the sounds spinning off her parents’ vinyl collection. Forced piano lessons in childhood barely made a spark, but when her dad gave her that first guitar, the fire was ignited. Over the years Jovan has graced many stages in and around her hometown of Saskatoon, SK in a range of bands crossing a spectrum of genres. Some notables include Stars on Strike, Banjo Van (Necessary Documents, 2011 and Seeking Compensation, 2015), Jezebel (Forget Me Not, 2017) and The Chickadees.
Recently, as Jovan began to unpack all the baggage that comes with life, she dug in deep to explore ways of processing and expressing herself through story-telling and sound scaping. Her lyrics portray heart-wrenching, brutally honest personal encounters with depression, abuse, divorce, death, addiction, offspring, sobriety, adventures, and love. She is inspired by her daily musings and all the moments of pain and joy that play like little vignettes in her head. Her sonic landscapes ebb and flow in waves of crushing then comforting guitars, each taking their turn in the spotlight. Beneath it all, a driving rhythm keeps her on solid ground. Up front and centre, there’s a solitary voice with confidence in its vulnerabilities.
Jovan is currently in the studio working on her debut album, scheduled for release in late 2025. It is being produced by Kim Fontaine with recording, mixing and mastering by Christian Douglas at the Sound Castle in Viscount, SK.
